Worldwide Flight Services grows its partnership with Polar Air Cargo
Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) announced that Polar Air Cargo, a global leader in time-definite, airport-to-airport scheduled air cargo service, has expanded its cargo handling partnership with WFS in North America through a new long-term contract at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
As of December 2021, WFS is providing full warehouse handling services for the more than five million kilos of cargo carried each month by Polar’s all-Boeing freighter fleet ex-LAX. Polar is a joint venture of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings and DHL Express. WFS also manages handling for Atlas Air’s scheduled and ad-hoc freighter service from Los Angeles.
The latest agreement with Polar, covering one of the biggest stations in Polar’s U.S. network, reflects WFS’ strong relationship with the airline. Polar has significantly grown its footprint at LAX through the addition of a second warehouse totaling more than 230,000 sq ft. WFS already provides handling services to Polar Air Cargo at its hub in Cincinnati, as well as in Dallas/Fort Worth, Miami, New York JFK, Seattle and Toronto airports.
“Our partnership with Polar Air Cargo is strategically important to WFS in North America, and globally. We are proud to be winning new station contracts on the strength of our performance at other major airports across Polar’s network,” commented Guido DiGiandomenico, Vice President of Sales for WFS in North America. “In Los Angeles, thanks to the hard work of our local WFS team, we have earned a solid reputation for providing quality cargo handling services in what is a challenging marketplace. We look forward to supporting Polar’s continued growth at this very important west coast gateway.”
As the world’s largest air cargo handler, WFS currently manages 235,000 sq ft of warehouse space at LAX, where Polar Air Cargo now joins its existing portfolio of leading international airline customers.
WFS’ general cargo handling volumes in Los Angeles now exceed 22 million kilos per month.
