Volga-Dnepr delivered four helicopters to extinguish fires in Greece
Volga-Dnepr Airlines, a recognized leader in the super-heavy and oversized air transportation market, delivered four Bell 214B helicopters with fuel tanks and related equipment from Australia to Greece.
The difficult shipment was organized in cooperation with Chapman Freeborn, Australia and McDermott Aviation - Heli-Lift in the shortest possible time. Two days after receiving confirmation for the flight, the Volga-Dnepr An 124-100 cargo plane was sent to Australia for a subsequent flight to Athens (Greece). The complexity of the project was that the cargo with a total weight of more than 30 tons was in two different locations. The Volga-Dnepr team needed to load two helicopters at Wellcamp and two at Perth, Australia.
The four firefighting helicopters are expected to help Greece fight wildfires that have spread significantly in recent weeks. 48 hours after the plane landed in Athens, the helicopters were completed and joined the remaining Bell 214B fleet.
Ekaterina Andreeva, Commercial Director of Volga-Dnepr Airlines, commented: “For the first time in the history of the Group, we transported four helicopters on a single flight with a phased load. This requires a certain level of professionalism of the lodemasters, the technical team and the crew, and the successful completion of the flight depends on accurate calculations, backed up by experience and competence in the field of helicopter transportation. Since 1990, Volga-Dnepr Group has transported and continues to transport more than 40 types of helicopters for the benefit of the humanitarian sector, medical organizations, tourism, as well as for participation in exhibitions and aviation salons, and our team of specialists has developed a specific checklist for the requirements for the safe transportation of each type ".
Today, Volga-Dnepr Group is ready to offer customers all over the world technical and engineering solutions for the transportation of helicopters, including consulting services for any project. The company has accumulated unique experience in loading and unloading large-sized non-separable elements, which significantly reduces the transportation process. The key component of the implementation of any project is people who have tremendous experience, knowledge and competencies, no matter how difficult the project may be.
