Virgin Atlantic and SkyCell join forces to ensure safe and secure pharma shipments worldwide
SkyCell is thrilled to announce our new partnership with Virgin Atlantic. The partnership brings together the commitment of both companies to provide innovative solutions and use sustainable resources to ensure the safe and secure shipment of valuable pharma products and vital vaccines.
Virgin Atlantic will use SkyCell containers covering the full range of biologics transit temperature requirements, from -80°C to -60°C, -25°C to -15°C, +2°C to +8°C, and up to +15°C to + 25°C. They will be utilized within Virgin Atlantic’s Pharma Secure service that was introduced last year during the pandemic for all urgent, valuable and vulnerable pharmaceutical/life sciences shipments.
DOMINIC KENNEDY, MANAGING DIRECTOR AT VIRGIN ATLANTIC
“Our partnership with SkyCell takes our already well-established pharmaceutical offering to the next level. We want to offer our customers peace of mind so they can book confidently with us, knowing their precious cargo will arrive safely, securely, and on time. We look forward to working together to transport crucial vaccines and pharmaceutical products to the UK and around the world on our global network."
The partnership will ensure pharmaceuticals arrive at their destination in a viable state and without temperature excursions. SkyCell’s failure rate of less than 0.1% far exceeds the industry standard of up to 12%, which cost the pharma industry $34.1 billion in 2019 alone. By integrating our hybrid containers into Virgin Atlantic’s Pharma Secure service, it enables pharma clients to reduce CAPA costs substantially and guarantee the safe delivery of sensitive medicine.
Plus, the hybrid’s exceptional features, including shock-absorbent feet, a double door system, and IoT sensors, also play a prominent part in client confidence and assuring no write-off costs with shipments. Bringing together our data-driven hybrid containers and Virgin Atlantic’s customer-focused Pharma secure service, we can provide our clients end-to-end compliance and assurance for vaccines and vital medicines.
CHIARA VENUTI, HEAD OF AIRLINE PARTNERSHIPS AT SKYCELL
“It’s clear that collaboration is the key to improving the supply chain and ensuring more life-saving pharmaceuticals make it to their destination in a viable state. Partnering with an innovative airline as Virgin Atlantic provides the resources to support pharma manufacturers, improving the efficiency and the safety of their supply chain.”
Furthermore, the partnership effectively helps pharma companies to reach their sustainability targets by reducing landfill through our reusable and efficient containers, and cutting their shipment’s carbon emissions by up to 50%. This is achieved through the hybrid’s lightweight design, efficiency, and the implementation of our circular economy principle.
