Swissport scoops up two aviation awards in Kenya
Swissport was named Best in Ground Handling and Best in Cargo Warehousing at the annual Aviation Business Excellence Awards in Nairobi, Kenya. In addition, the global leader in aviation ground services was voted second in the Overall Winner category. In Kenya, with some 490 employees Swissport offers airport ground services, air cargo handling and lounge hospitality as well as specialist services like load control for airlines around the world. Swissport in Kenya recently launched its Flower Corridor initiative to create a highly efficient and secure supply chain for fresh cut flowers and maximum handling efficiency, security, and prolonged shelf life for retailers.
"We are really honored and grateful to receive these prestigious awards in recognition of the hard work and dedication of our teams in Nairobi," said Racheal Ndegwa, Managing Director of Swissport in Kenya. "These awards underscore our position as a leader in the Kenyan aviation industry and around the world."
At the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport hub in Nairobi (NBO), Swissport has been providing airport ground services and air cargo handling to more than 20 airline customers for more than 25 years. Swissport's state-of-the-art cargo center offers 10,400 square meters of space for handling general cargo and perishable goods, as well as a Swissport Pharma Center for transporting temperature-sensitive shipments with pharmaceutical products.
Under its ASPIRE lounge brand Swissport also operates a very attractive airport lounge at NBO, providing hospitality services to passengers. Swissport's portfolio in the Kenyan capital is complemented by a load control center, which provides load-control services for a growing number of airline customers in Kenya and abroad.
"The two awards in our key business areas in Kenya underline that our teams are very successful in serving our airline customers in the challenging environment of 2022," added Dirk Goovaerts, Swissport's Managing Director for Continental Europe, Middle East and Africa and Global Cargo Chair. "This recognition is for the local Kenyan team, and it motivates us all in our drive to excel and be the partner of choice for airlines in Kenya and beyond."
The ABEA awards were launched in 2018 by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) in collaboration with the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) as an annual program. The awards are designed to help drive the development of Kenya's aviation industry. They are presented to members of the aviation industry, including airlines, cargo and ground handlers, hospitality and aviation support service providers.
