SCI tanker in incident off Oman coast
An Indian oil tanker, MT Desh Vaibhav suffered an explosion off the coast of Oman.
The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) said in a statement that an explosion struck the MT Desh Vaibhav in the Gulf of Oman while it was en route to Fujairah, which is on the eastern coast of the United Arab Emirates.
As per preliminary information available with the company, 3 personnel are reported missing. Another person with burns is being evacuated by helicopter. Assistance has been sought from the Oman Royal Navy and other ships in the vicinity. As per latest status at the time of going to press, the fire has subsided and a fire-fighting vessel has reached the ship to cool down the tanks, said a release.
It also said, the vessel will be taken to nearest port for assessment of damage and repairs
