Samsung delivered a 174,000-cbm LNG carrier to NYK
The liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier QUEST KIRISHIMA, which is ordered from Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. was delivered at SHI Geoje shipyard on December 2nd. The vessel will be used under a time charter contract with Q United Energy Supply & Trading Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc.
The cargo tank of the vessel is a membrane type with a capacity of 174,000 m3, and adopts a tank system with excellent thermal insulation performance. In addition, the vessel is equipped with a dual-fuel slow-speed diesel engine "X-DF engine" that uses fuel oil and boil-off gas (LNG vaporized in the cargo tank during voyage) and a re-liquefaction system that effectively utilizes surplus boil-off gas, realizing a significantly more efficient, economical, and environmentally friendly operation compared to conventional LNG carriers.
In our medium-term management plan "Sail Green, Drive Transformations 2026", we have set the strengthening of our existing core businesses and investment in new growth businesses as our core strategy. In the energy transport business, we will strengthen our efforts mainly in the LNG/LPG ship business, which we position as a growth area, and contribute to the realization of a stable supply of energy to Japan by utilizing the experience, technical capabilities, and network we have cultivated as one of the world's largest LNG ship owners and managers.
In addition to the LNG transport business, they will continue to strengthen our cooperation with the Kyuden Group in a wide range of fields, such as the LNG fuel supply business for ships, the construction of the world's first LNG-fueled Panamax coal carrier, and the construction of a supply chain for next-generation energy such as green ammonia.
