Ray-Mont Logistics and NWSA agree to lease of Terminal 10 in Seattle
At their Oct. 4 meeting, the Northwest Seaport Alliance Managing Members adopted a lease for Terminal 10 in Seattle with Ray-Mont Logistics Lease.
Terminal 10 is a 13.19-acre site on the west side of Harbor Island in Seattle, of which 8.1 acres will be utilized as a containerized transloading facility focused on agricultural products.
In November of 2020, the NWSA sought to explore new uses for Terminal 10 that optimized the railyard at the facility and supported cargo movement in the NWSA gateway. After issuing an RFP, Ray-Mont Logistics was selected as the prime partner to fully utilize the assets of the Terminal and grow maritime industrial business.
“Our goal at the NWSA is to ensure that our assets provide jobs and business activity for our region. Ray-Mont’s proposed use of Terminal 10 represents an opportunity to optimize its rail capacity and proximity to Terminals 18 and 5 to expand export transloading and increase economic activity in our gateway,” stated The Northwest Seaport Alliance Co-Chair, Ryan Calkins
The largest containerized transloading terminal operator in Canada, Ray-Mont Logistics is one of the largest freight forwarders of export marine containers in Canada. Ray-Mont’s business supports the growth of exports of agricultural product, resins, forest products, and other emerging commodities.
This lease increases Ray-Mont's footprint in the North Harbor, which includes an adjacent project with King County. These two adjacent properties will allow Ray-Mont to significantly expand the harbor’s trans-loading capabilities while utilizing the on-dock rail asset that serves both projects.
“Ray-Mont Logistics is glad to partner with The Northwest Seaport Alliance to transform Terminal 10 into a key agricultural export transloading terminal that enables smaller shippers to access a variety of international markets. Terminal 10 provides distinct assets that will enable Ray-Mont to expand our footprint in the United States and bring our innovative IT systems and supply chain solutions to Seattle.” stated Charles Raymond, President & CEO of Ray-Mont Logistics.
The NWSA consistently aims to increase export opportunities in the Seattle/Tacoma gateway. Not only will this increase utilization of Terminal 10’s unique position and assets but will also expand the export opportunities for agricultural products, including grain, legumes, and other agriculture goods, mostly from the U.S. Northern Great Plains region.
Terminal 10 is currently being utilized for truck, chassis, and single container storage. At the beginning of the Terminal 10 lease, Ray-Mont will be offering subleases to current trucking company tenants to support continued parking opportunities while Ray-Mont prepares the Terminal for future uses.
