Port of Brisbane has signed a 10-year lease agreement with global transport and logistics leader, DSV Air & Sea Pty Ltd, to deliver a warehouse and container hardstand on a 4.8ha site on Fisherman Islands.
The new Fisherman Islands facility will enable DSV, an existing Port tenant with additional city sites, to bring its current Brisbane-based road and sea freight service operations to a central location.
Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) will deliver a purpose-built facility to include a 16,008sqm warehouse, a two-storey operations office, and approximately 26,220sqm of container-rated hardstand as well as awnings, and truck manoeuvring and car parking areas.
The development will also incorporate sustainable design elements including a 100kW solar installation, use of recycled materials in the civil construction, low carbon concrete in external pavements and energy efficient LED light fittings as well as the incorporation of water efficient hydraulic fittings and rainwater tanks for greywater use.
PBPL CEO, Neil Stephens, said the Port was pleased to build on its relationship with DSV to design and deliver them a new, permanent home.
“As an existing customer, we were able to work together to understand DSV’s specific operational requirements while identifying a greenfield site within our Future Port Expansion area, immediately adjacent to the Port’s terminals and wharves.
“The purpose-built facility combined with this prime location will help DSV to realise significant operational and logistics efficiencies, supporting its operations now and into the future.
“As large, greenfield industrial sites close to both the Port and the CBD become increasingly harder to find, Port of Brisbane works closely with existing and new customers to identify these opportunities. Our streamlined Development Application process means we’re able to work collaboratively and move quickly to design and deliver facilities that meet the specific needs of our customers.”
DSV Air & Sea Managing Director, Paul Thomson, commented that DSV was very excited to develop this new facility in partnership with the Port of Brisbane.
“Queensland is set to erupt with a variety of infrastructure projects over the next 10 years, from the significant Renewable Energy developments in wind and solar together with the construction and supply of services for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. This new facility will provide DSV with the space and resources needed to service these large scale projects,” said Mr Thomson.
“The facility will also allow for the expansion of our Mining Supply Base to the Asia Pacific Region in particular to Papua New Guinea. We see huge opportunity for growth in this sector and the location close to the ports not only allows for efficient logistics to and from the port docks but also reduced costs and carbon footprint impact in container transportation requirements”.
Shaw Harrison, QLD Director of Industrial & Logistics Savills, who brokered the deal said, “We are thrilled to have worked with two long standing clients to achieve a great outcome for their major expansion needs for their large warehouse storage, container park and project delivery space. From initial requirement and preliminary design meetings with Paul and Senior Management from DSV, we quickly advanced concept designs into a full design and construct brief for their long-term future needs. The Port of Brisbane’s’ broader property team and their suite of consultants are a well-oiled machine. Grateful for working with them throughout the process and to deliver another project with the Port, which will commence construction shortly.”
McNab has been appointed as Principal Contractor for the project.
Construction will commence in late March and is anticipated to complete in late 2024.
