OOCL once again wins Singapore Environmental Achievement Award (SEAA)
Orient Overseas Container Line Limited (OOCL) was honored to receive the “Regional Award” at the “2022 Singapore Environmental Achievement Awards (SEAA)” on Singapore Environment Council Conference Day, 23 August 2022. This is the sixth award OOCL has received at the SEAA ceremony for its long-standing commitment and dedication to environmental stewardship.
Organized by the Singapore Environment Council (SEC), the Singapore Environmental Achievement Awards are some of the most prestigious environmental awards in Singapore and the Asia Pacific region today. The SEAA are intended to increase the level of environmental performance and awareness in the region, and to pay tribute to organizations that have demonstrated their commitment to environmental excellence. The awards process works by assessing a range of relevant factors in the case of each contender entity: the environmental leadership displayed, the real environmental improvements made, and the success achieved in establishing procedures, training staff and innovating in order to achieve breakthroughs in environmental performance.
Commenting on the award, Mr. Richard Hew, Managing Director of OOCL (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. said: “We would like to thank the Singapore Environment Council for this huge encouragement and recognition. Winning this award at SEAA again acknowledges OOCL’s efforts in sustainability over many years. OOCL will continue to take a leadership role in advancing sustainability, through implementing green initiatives, and by working together with our business partners and customers to address environmental challenges and to achieve our long-term climate goals.”
OOCL has been taking a proactive role in implementing many environmental initiatives and projects, such as investing in green vessels, applying the latest artificial intelligence technology to enhance fuel efficiency, and concluding the advanced testing of biofuel. Apart from embedding sustainability across all its business activities, the company also works with its business partners to further sustainability in the region. In June 2022, OOCL and PSA Corporation Ltd (PSA) successfully completed a joint pilot project to reduce the overall trucking distance for empty container collection and returns within Singapore, thereby reducing the carbon footprint per truck trip, as well as enhancing productivity.
