New cargo airline opens his headquarters at Barranquilla
Panamericana Airlines, a Colombian Airline founded in Barranquilla under the direction of a German businessman, announced that they’re going to begin operations in the second half of August from the Atlantic capital.
Ronald Peña, Growth Manager of this specialized cargo transportation airline, said that they will offer international service from this city to Miami and Caracas. "We have planned the inaugural flight for this August 17, but it is a process that requires the coordination of many actors, including international airports," he said.
The airline has a fleet of nine aircraft, including six Boeing 747-400s with which they can cover routes to Europe and Asia and others for long-range intra-continental, national and regional routes.
"Our headquarters are in Barranquilla," said the businessman, who highlighted the advantages offered by the city for its tradition as a birthplace of aviation and for its geographical conditions that help to save fuel and use more cargo transport capacity.
Thomas Friese, founding partner of the airline, brings his experience and the European scheme in the development of the company, "guaranteeing personalized service to its clients and job stability for its employees".
Peña said that they are an alternative for cargo shipments with national and international destinations for the companies in the Atlantic capital, achieving the faster arrive of their exports. "Currently there’s a centralization at the El Dorado airport, where almost 90% of the country's cargo enters and leaves, generating air traffic congestion that delays the deliveries," said the Airline's Directors.
With the opening in Barranquilla, more than 30 direct jobs have been generated and they plan to close the year with about 300. The service platform they offer includes air cargo transportation, articulated air courier with ground logistics and customs management.
