Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. a Group company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, held a naming and launching ceremony on the 15th at the Enoura Plant of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' Shimonoseki Shipyard & Machinery Works for the second of two LNG fueled roll-on roll-off cargo ships that are currently being constructed on order from Toyofuji Kaiun Co., Ltd. The ship, named "TRANS HARMONY EMERALD," will undergo outfitting work, trial operation, etc. and will then be delivered to Toyofuji Kaiun in June 2025, after which it will enter service as a RORO ship on Asian routes.
The vessel is approximately 195m long, 30.6m wide, has a gross tonnage of approximately 49,500 tons, and can carry approximately 3,000 passenger cars. The main engine and main power generating engine are equipped with high-performance dual-fuel engines that can use both LNG and diesel as fuel, achieving excellent performance with a 25% reduction in CO2 emissions and almost zero SOx (sulfur oxide) emissions compared to a vessel of the same size that uses heavy oil, thereby contributing to reducing the burden on the environment.
The first ship ordered by Toyofuji Shipping, "TRANS HARMONY GREEN," held its naming and launching ceremony in June this year and is scheduled to be delivered to the company at the end of January 2025.
As part of the Group's strategic Energy Transition initiative, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding will contribute to the realization of a carbon-neutral society through the decarbonization of the maritime industry through the construction of LNG-fueled ships. As a marine systems integrator, the company will continue to solve a variety of issues together with its business partners by building ferries and RORO ships that offer excellent fuel efficiency and environmental performance and contribute to stable operation.
