Brazilian coal mining company CCX has announced approval by the Colombian national infrastructure agency (ANI) to build a private port in La Guajira.

The new 35-million-tonnes-per-year terminal will operate under a 30-year concession and is part of CCX's larger project for La Guajira, which includes the development of a coal mine and the construction of a railway.

In early October the Brazilian mining company hired financial advisors to identify potential investors for its Colombian San Juan underground coal mine and its related infrastructure logistics projects, consisting of the La Guajira port and a railroad.

CCX had expected to invest US$5.5 billion to develop its assets in Colombia, and is currently in the licensing process for the railroad project as well as for San Juan, which was forecast to begin construction this year. The mine was targeted to be fully operational in early 2017.(Source: Business News Americas)
