The Sri Lanka Port Authority (SLPA) is pleased to announce the port call of the container vessel EVER ARM at the Colombo East Container Terminal (CECT) on, 5 September 2024. Sailing under the flag of Taiwan, this ship, identified by its International Maritime Organization (IMO) number 9893931, marks a significant milestone for the Port of Colombo, renowned as the busiest port in South Asia. EVER ARM, measuring 400 metres in length and 60 metres in beam, features a substantial summer draught of 17.027 metres and an advanced propulsion system that enhances its operational efficiency and cargo capacity.
“We are happy to welcome the EVER ARM, part of Evergreen’s fleet, operating on the China-Europe-Mediterranean (CEM) route. This mega vessel, with a capacity of 24,000 TEUs, successfully called at the Colombo East Container Terminal, where our 55-metre-high ship-to-shore cranes ensured smooth operations. After departing from Rotterdam Maasvlakte, the EVER ARM is now en route to Kaohsiung, Taiwan, marking another achievement for our terminal,” said Mr. U Kumara, Director of Operations and Acting Chief Operating Officer of CECT.
The vessel, with a gross tonnage of 235,579 and a deadweight capacity of 241,960 metric tonnes, was constructed in 2022 by Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. at their Geoje Shipyard. Designed to accommodate up to 24,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), EVER ARM exemplifies the modern standards of container ships.
“This landmark achievement reflects the excellence of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and the Port of Colombo as a whole. It showcases the cutting-edge technology and modern infrastructure at the CECT, the newly commissioned deep-water terminal in our port,” added Mr. Lal Weerasinghe, Additional Managing Director (Operations).
This significant port call highlights the Port of Colombo’s capability to handle the latest generation of ultra-large container vessels, reinforcing its strategic significance in global maritime logistics. The successful docking and handling of EVER ARM affirm the Port of Colombo’s role as a premier hub for international trade and solidify its position as a key player in the maritime industry.
